How We Become An Example Of Christ

What makes a person Christ like or an example of Christ?  There are many aspects to being like Him you might say, and this is true. However there is one sure way to be an example of Christ.  That is to obey His Word, trust His Word, and live by His Word. Love like He does, forgive like He does, and seek daily to be more like Him. You may be thinking, "I cannot be a person who is like Christ, and I do not know how we become an example of Christ, it is impossible."

Here is what the Word states that we should be and do:

"He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked." 1 John 2:6 (KJV)

"That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."  Ephesians 4: 22-24 (KJV)

"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savior." Ephesians 5: 1-2 (KJV)

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

So, if we can be like Christ, what are the steps to be more like Him?

 1) Being sorry for the sin that occupies a life before God's forgiveness.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  1 John 1:9 (KJV)

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."  Romans 10: 9-10,13, John 3: 5, Acts 16:1 (KJV)

2) Letting go of the past and living a different life through and with Jesus Christ.
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."  Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
"And now, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified."  Acts 20:32 (JKV)

3) Love Him as He Love Us
"And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God."  Ephesians 3:19 (KJV)

"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." John 14:23 (KJV)
"A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." John 13:34-35 (KJV)
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."  John 13:34 (KJV)

Love Not the World

The Word also tells not to love the former things which we have done, nor those things of the world that give us pleasures for a moment. When we become fully acceptable to His doctrine, we leave the things behind that cause us to sin willfully.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."  1 John 2:15 (KJV)

This verse explain a little more regarding the things of the world:

"For all that (is) in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the PRIDE of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2: 16 (KJV)

The advantages of living for Christ, and being like Him are too great to not try to be like Him. Number one if you believe in heaven, then you should believe in hell. That is one wonderful concept of why to become an example of Christ. We do not want to live an eternity in hell. Strong language, but a fact.

When we pray in need if we are living the true life for Him, we know He will hear our prayers. His words are the following:

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."  John 15:7 (KJV)

"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; (who is the vine? Jesus of course),No more can ye, except ye abide in me."  John 15:4 (KJV)

I have used a lot of scripture today, and that is because the Word of God is very plain in the explanation of how we become an example of Christ. We can profess to be like Him, but if we are not bearing fruit, we are lacking and cannot expect Him to jump (although He often does) to our rescue in a time of trouble. We often have to confess our sins before we can say Lord and Savior I need you in a hurry.

Walking daily is the best thing we should do. Then we can be assured of His continued presence with us. Again, I love John 15 above. We must abide in Him, and He is us.

God bless your day, and strive to know how we become an example of Christ.....
